Quakerism is rich in history and complexity Friends of the Light, has begun to create an online a study and discussion group to consider, in an on-going fashion, both historical and contemporary aspects of Faith and Practice. Because the study is an interactive process and even the most wizened of us consider ourselves more students than masters of the subject, the class is perpetually at an introductory level, a sort of “Friends 101". New seekers and attenders as well as seasoned Friends are welcome. Format is an informal "led" discussion centred on a reading chosen by the group. Participants are welcome to join the discussion without having read the material.
Quakerism 101 will be meeting at local meetings as well as online. Check out our events calendar for the dates of the next series. The first programme will begin with the following six sessions,
Session One: History and Context: The Religious Society & the Silent Meeting for Worship
Session Two: Gospel Order, Openings, Leadings & Ministry
Session Three: Witness & Testimony
Session Four: Spiritual Gifts in Community
Session Five: Discernment and Spiritual Practices among Friends
Session Six: Contemporary Quakerism: Contrasts and Connections
